1. What is a Tagging Gun?
A tagging gun (also commonly known as a tag gun, price gun, or label gun) is a handheld manual tool used to quickly and securely attach price tags, labels, or information cards to items such as clothing, textiles, stuffed toys, shoes, hats, and luggage.
·Core Principle: It uses a mechanical lever action to fire a special plastic fastener (called a “tag pin,” “barbs,” or “needle”) through the material of an item. This fastener holds the tag in place.
·Key Components:
1.Body: The main housing containing the mechanism.
2.Trigger: The lever you pull to fire the tag pin.
3.Needle/Nozzle: The sharp, pointed end that guides the pin through the fabric.
4.Tag Pin Chamber: The compartment that holds the roll of plastic tag pins.
5.Release Lever: A mechanism to open the needle area for clearing jams.
2. How to Use a Tagging Gun
Using a tagging gun is a straightforward process:
1.Load the Tag Pins:
·Open the chamber on the gun.
·Place a roll of tag pins that are compatible with your gun model into the chamber.
·Pull the tip of the tag pin strip through the internal guide channel and out from the needle nozzle, leaving about 1-2 cm exposed. Ensure the “T-bar” end of the pin is facing the correct direction (usually indicated by a diagram on the gun).
·Close the chamber cover.
2.Prepare the Tag and Item:
·Thread the tip of the tag pin through the hole in the tag or label you want to attach.
·Identify the spot on the item where you want to place the tag (e.g., a seam, the side of a t-shirt, under the collar—somewhere discreet and where it won’t damage the fabric).
3.Attach the Tag:
·Place the needle of the gun firmly against the chosen spot on the item.
·Squeeze the trigger firmly. You will hear a “click” sound.
·Release the trigger and pull the gun straight back away from the item.
4.Completion:
·The tag is now securely fastened. The plastic pin has been pushed through the material and its end has been cut and locked on the other side. The front shows the “T-bar,” and the back has a short crossbar that holds the fibers securely in between.
3. Important Precautions and Warnings
Using the tagging gun correctly is crucial to prevent damaging merchandise and ensuring safety.
1.Safety First:
·NEVER point the gun at people or animals. The needle is extremely sharp and can cause serious injury.
·Store the gun in a place inaccessible to children.
2.Choose the Correct Tag Pins:
·Always use tag pins designed for your specific gun model. Using incompatible pins will cause jams and can break the gun.
·Select the correct pin length: Tag pins come in different lengths (e.g., 2mm, 4mm, 6mm, 10mm). The length refers to the pin’s stem.
··Too short: It won’t penetrate thicker materials.
··Too long: It will leave a long, uncomfortable plastic stem on the inside that can scratch skin or other garments.
··Guideline: Use 2-4mm for thin t-shirts, 4-6mm for sweaters, and 6-10mm for thick jackets or quilts.
3.Choose the Attachment Location Carefully:
·Avoid areas that touch skin directly: Such as the inside of a collar or a waistband, to prevent irritation from the plastic back.
·Avoid damaging delicate fabrics:
··Do NOT use on delicate materials like silk, chiffon, fine lace, genuine leather, suede, or ultra-thin nylon. The pin will leave a permanent hole and may cause the fabric to rip.
··Aim for seams or double-layered areas where the hole will be less noticeable and structurally safer.
··Avoid stretching single-layer knit fabrics, as the pin can cause a “run” in the material.
4.Operation and Maintenance:
·Before firing, ensure the path in front of the needle is clear.
·If the trigger is hard to pull, do not force it. Stop and check if the gun is out of pins, if a pin is jammed, or if the needle is blocked by fabric debris.
·Clean the needle regularly: Lint and fabric fibers can accumulate. Use the release lever to open the needle area and carefully clear any debris with a small brush or a pin.
·For long-term storage, it’s best to store the gun empty (without a roll of pins) to relieve pressure on the internal spring.
By following these guidelines, you can use a tagging gun efficiently and safely, ensuring your products are labeled professionally without any damage.
